Pink Lakes of Ukraine is a one-of-a-kind original watercolor painting that captures the stunning beauty and rare natural phenomenon of the pink lakes in southern Ukraine. Inspired by the vibrant rose-colored waters of Lemurian Lake and Henyches’ke Lake in the Kherson Region, this landscape painting portrays the unique hues and salt textures created by the lake’s high salinity and microalgae. Known as Ukraine’s “Dead Sea,” this region is one of only a few places in the world where pink salt lakes naturally occur.
Infused with meaning and connection to Ukrainian cultural heritage, this artwork is more than a landscape—it’s a historical tribute. These lakes were once the starting point of the Chumaks’ Way, a major trade route from the 16th to 18th centuries, where salt was carried across Europe. To reflect the essence of this sacred place, I used natural salt directly in the painting process, allowing it to form delicate crystalline textures that shimmer like the salt beds themselves.
Painted with professional watercolor pigments on high-quality 300gsm 100% cotton Arches paper, this artwork combines vibrant watercolor techniques with organic materials to evoke the natural magic and healing calm of this surreal landscape.
This painting was proudly exhibited at the international art exhibition “Places of Power” in Ljubljana, Slovenia (December 2023), standing as a tribute to Ukrainian resilience, beauty, and connection to the land.
